ISSUES
Fred Grant's Platform
MENTAL HEALTH
Addressing mental health in Washington State is an urgent priority. With a steadfast commitment, Fred Grant aims to create a robust system that provides accessible and comprehensive mental health resources for every resident. By destigmatizing mental health challenges, fostering early intervention, and expanding support networks, we strive to ensure that every individual receives the care, compassion, and resources they need to lead fulfilling lives.
ENVIRONMENT
Washington is a beautiful state, and Fred Grant wants to keep it that way. He is committed to fighting climate change, protecting our forests and wildlife, and promoting sustainable practices. Let's work together to keep Washington green and clean.
HEALTHCARE
Fred Grant believes that healthcare is a basic human right. He is committed to expanding access to healthcare for all Washingtonians, lowering prescription drug prices, and improving the quality of care. Let's make sure that everyone in Washington has access to affordable, high-quality healthcare.
TOURISM
Tourism stands as a vital economic engine for Washington State, offering a gateway to prosperity for communities statewide. By showcasing our natural wonders, vibrant cultures, and diverse attractions, we can harness the transformative power of tourism. Strengthening this sector not only creates jobs and generates revenue but also amplifies local businesses, bolsters infrastructure, and fosters a sense of pride in our shared heritage. Embracing tourism as a cornerstone of our economy paves the way for sustainable growth, increased investment, and a flourishing future for all Washingtonians.
EDUCATION
Fred Grant believes that every child in Washington deserves access to quality education. He is committed to improving our schools, paying teachers what they deserve, and providing more resources to students. As governor, Fred will make education a top priority.
HOUSING
Affordable housing is crucial for a fair and thriving Washington. Fred Grant's commitment to affordable housing means everyone can have a secure and affordable home. This isn't just about shelter; it's about stronger communities, better lives, and a more prosperous future for all in our state.
TECHNOLOGY
AI is transforming the workplace, introducing automation and intelligent systems that optimize tasks and processes. As we embrace this evolution, it's crucial to ensure a smooth transition for everyone. Fred Grant is committed to facilitating this change by promoting upskilling and reskilling programs, enabling workers to adapt and thrive in a technology-driven environment. By investing in education and training initiatives, we empower our workforce to harness the potential of AI, fostering a more efficient, innovative, and adaptable workforce for the future.
TRANSPORTATION
I believe that investing in railroads and subways is necessary to address the traffic problems in our state. According to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), real-time travel data can be viewed on an interactive map or searched by route to get a list of travel alerts, cameras, truck restrictions, and weather. By leveraging this data, I can identify the most congested areas and plan accordingly.
LANE VISIBILITY
If you reside in Washington, you’re likely familiar with the frustratingly low visibility of lane dividers. Especially during rainy nights, countless Washingtonians grumble about the challenge of discerning road lanes—a perilous issue that often goes unnoticed. Fred is committed to addressing this safety concern by researching innovative solutions. His approach involves exploring highly reflective or illuminating paints for road markings, all while maintaining an eco-friendly footprint.
CRIME
Over the past few years, our violent crime rate has been on the move. In 2022, we were about 1% below the U.S. national rate, which is a significant shift from 2012 when we were 23% below the national rate. Last year, we had 375.6 reported violent crimes per 100,000 people, just a tad lower than the national average of 380.7 per 100,000 people. Fred Grant wants to tackle this issue by focusing on things like police staffing, community engagement, and smart crime prevention strategies.
FAIR COMPETITION
I am committed to promoting fair competition and preventing the formation of monopolies. To achieve this, I will work to reduce barriers to entry for small businesses, such as excessive regulations and high startup costs, and provide them with access to resources and support. I will also enforce antitrust laws that prohibit companies from engaging in anti-competitive practices, such as price-fixing, bid-rigging, and market allocation. By promoting fair competition and preventing the formation of monopolies, we can ensure that consumers have access to a variety of products and services at reasonable prices.
DRUG ACTIVITY
Washington State faces significant drug-related issues, with a sharp increase in overdose deaths.
-
Fentanyl: This potent synthetic opioid is a major contributor to fatalities. It’s often mixed with other drugs, including counterfeit pills. Public awareness campaigns about the dangers of fentanyl and promoting access to naloxone (an overdose reversal medication) are essential.
-
Methamphetamine: A prevalent psychostimulant, methamphetamine plays a significant role in overdose deaths. Combating its distribution involves community education, law enforcement efforts, and targeted treatment programs.
WOMEN'S RIGHTS
Our state has a long-standing commitment to reproductive rights, and I pledge to uphold this legacy. Washington will continue to be pro-choice, ensuring that individuals have the autonomy to make decisions about their own bodies.
Furthermore, I recognize the importance of privacy and confidentiality when it comes to medical records. As governor, I will ensure that women’s medical records remain confidential and will not be shared with other states seeking to incriminate those who have had abortions in Washington. Every person deserves respect, dignity, and the right to make their own reproductive choices without fear of persecution or judgment.
Together, we can protect reproductive freedom and ensure that Washington remains a safe haven for those seeking reproductive healthcare.
SOCIAL JUSTICE
As a candidate for governor, I firmly believe that every person, regardless of their background, gender, age, or color, deserves equal treatment. We are all born on this earth as human beings, sharing common experiences of laughter, tears, dreams, hopes, anger, regrets, growth, and love. In America, everyone should have the opportunity to pursue life, liberty, and happiness. Let us work together to build a more just and compassionate society for all.
LAW ENFORCEMENT
I recognize the pressing issue of police officer shortages in our state. Ensuring public safety is paramount, and I am committed to collaborating closely with the state's Chief of Police to address this challenge. My administration will focus on recruitment and retention, offering competitive incentives to attract qualified officers. Simultaneously, we will invest in training and mental health support for officers, emphasizing de-escalation techniques and community engagement. By fostering a culture of trust and accountability, we can create a safer environment for both law enforcement professionals and the citizens they serve.
